FAQs
How long are classes?
Classes generally run between 1-1/2 and 2-1/2 hours, depending on the lessons and the skill level of the student. More involved courses, though, like cakes, can easily take 3+ hours. A complete list of typical class duration is available upon inquiry.
What do students learn?
We don’t “just” teach how to cook. Cleanliness, organization, timeliness, teamwork, and craftsmanship are all part of each lesson. How to pick produce, how to take care of your tools, sourcing quality ingredients, chemistry, physics, geometry, and ethics (e.g. food production + waste) all play their own roles.
How much does a class cost?
We charge hourly, and rates are based on the skill level of the specific course as well as the ingredient costs. We provide a full price list for our available courses upon inquiry.
Does Orangerie do larger functions?
Yes! Our more experienced students are encouraged to host an event for their friends/family at our venue. We find that once they reach a certain comfort level, entertaining seems to be a natural next step. Please note that we charge on a per-head basis for these events.
How are classes structured?
Classes are hands-on and interactive. Each course is focused on making a dish to completion. The learning environment is similar to that of a restaurant or a larger home function in that there may be multiple students making different courses simultaneously.
Do we get to eat or take food home?
Yes! Students are welcome to eat all that they make and we are happy to send home any remainder.
